NASDAQ Market Replay won Adobe MAX Award

NASDAQ Market Replay won the Best Enterprise Application in the Adobe MAX Awards 2008 at the Adobe MAX conference in San Francisco.

The Powerful NASDAQ Market Replay application enables investment professionals to replay the market by slowing it down to the millisecond level for moment-in-time insight into trade histories.

The creative department at Hello helped Adobe design the NASDAQ Market Replay application, which helps investors by providing a validated replay and analysis of securities listed on all major U.S. equity markets. It is an essential part of a trader’s job to keep pace with the fast changing financial markets. As market data is played out over time on the trading floor, we wanted to represent this visually. We took our inspiration from sound editors when we designed the user experience. Similar to a sound sampler, you can replay a snippet of the entire data. One of the challenges was that a whole day of trading, for example in Apple stocks, can result in a 45 MB text file (trades are recorded down to the millisecond). Due to the massive amount of data that investors have to deal with daily, we used the Adobe Air framework. This platform lets you work with data offline, and only updates when a user requests it from the server. What came out the other end was a seamless user experience, allowing for data to become tangible in a smooth zooming algorithm that constantly redraws the screen as the user moves in and ponders the finer details of a market-play.

User needs drove the feature set here, making sure that we ended up with a focused, easy-to-use application and an elegant interface. Hello produced the IA, interaction design, algorithm – as well as the visual user experience for the NASDAQ Market Replay.

Alongside Adobe and NASDAQ, Hello took the challenge of making intangible mountains of data into an innovative and useful solution that resulted in giving a very high brand value for NASDAQ.

Adobe MAX NA 2008

Adobe MAX NA 2008 is over… it’s been great to be here in Adobe’s HQ city and meeting all the people responsible for the tools that we use every day.

It’s amazing how clever Adobe is in combining both driving the development by research and innovation as well as responding to the changes to the industry that more than ever puts strains on technology companies.

Now, to recap 2 of the really big things that have been presented to the public on this year’s MAX.

Flash Catalyst
This is the kind of application that fills such a critical role in our industry, so it’s really easy to get it wrong… so to be honest, I was very concerned about how Adobe were going to go about it… but to my positive surprise, Adobe has really been good at interpreting the needs of interactive agencies and created a tool that was even better than what I thought would be a good result. The seamless integration between CS4 and Flash Catalyst through a common object model and Flex Builder through FXG is actually better than I had hoped for.

Almost every application being built now and in the future will include elements of collaboration. Furthermore will future applications be using the internet as a part of its native architecture and base itself on functionality it gets from services in the cloud. These factors all point to a framework such as Cocomo, I can’t wait to be able to use it in applications now that it’s made it through to the public beta state during Adobe MAX in San Francisco.

”MyHome – Your Intelligent Home” is in the Adobe MAX awards finals !

Now its official… “MyHome – Your Intelligent Home” is an Adobe MAX awards finalist.

This is off course a great honor considering the rather short time HelloGroup has been in business and how relatively recently we added development of RIA’s for the Adobe Flash platform to our services.

When we at HelloGroup do something – I suppose we do it so it eventually makes a difference.

Why Max – 30 on Max

Having decided to post a video for the “30 on MAX” campaign only because it was a chance to get a chance to experiment with some video… I decided that it should be posted to YouTube despite certain factual errors in the initial text (I apologize in advance, I’m off course not only one of 21 Adobe Flex experts in the world, but the writers in the video got a couple of details wrong).

Anyways… here it is… watch it and laugh and/or weep, whatever suits you the best…

Adobe MAX… so close now !

If you have not already signed up… the last opportunity is getting closer…

We are going a whole bunch from Hello to Milan… seeing that it’s the best opportunity to get face to face with the many engineers that do the tools and frameworks we work with every day.

Personally I have a list of more than 10 ideas and questions I want to discuss with various people, from ideas to improvements and questions for some of the inner workings of the Adobe Flex SDK I hope to cover the most possible ground ever on this groundbreaking MAX.

It’s going to be an interesting one after the massive momentum Adobe Flex as a technology has experienced during the year, I expect we are going to see a LOT of interesting indications of things to take place in 2009 at this year’s MAX.

”My Home” in the semi-finals for Adobe MAX Awards 2008 ! (2)

I have just been informed that “My Home – Your Intelligent Home” has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Adobe MAX Awards 2008 competition !

In close competition with hundreds of other applications from all over the world, the judging panel has selected My Home to participate with a few other selected applications about becoming this year’s best products build on Adobe technologies.

It actually came as a surprise to the team that they actually selected My Home at this point, seeing that we are about to launch a major update with a completely new look, loads of new cool features as well as having given the entire application a massive overhaul in regards to improving performance… all things that will NOT be available online until after the 1st of October 2008 when the system launches and we remove the BETA sign… J

This effectively means that the judging panel has NOT taken into consideration the months of work that the team has put into taking the My Home to the next level.

It’s a truly great honor for the Danish Electricity Saving Trust and HelloGroup… that these two organization’s collaborative effort, even at such an early stage in the relative long expected lifespan of the My Home project, have received this kind of worldwide recognition and attention is a true testimony to the fact that our humble organization most certainly is among the “upfront’est” in the new media playing field and that one can do everything if one set one’s mind to it !

”My Home” in the semi-finals for Adobe MAX Awards 2008 !

The application on which I am currently working has gone through to the semi-finals for this year’s Adobe MAX Awards !

It’s a groundbreaking application in many ways which is being developed for one of the most visionary institutions in Denmark. The organization is the Danish Electricity Saving Trust which is a department under the Danish Ministry of the Environment.

You can read more about the actual project here…

In the first phase “My Home” offers savings advice for all your appliances including tips such as how you can save power by using appliances better, and whether it’s a good idea to replace them with new and more energy efficient equivalents.… in the second phase My Home will become a technological platform for the intelligent home and will operate as a control centre for your appliances and electrical equipment.
